The T-Bone Effect: Issue 11 (The Baron Malkavain Effect)
Hello everyone and welcome back to The T-Bone Effect! This time we are going to give some attention to someone who has not had much attention in the last year or this year in the wrestling scene. His name is Dustin Ring. Ring made his return to the wrestling scene at New Experience Wrestling in West Memphis just in the last two months. He recently competed against 3G Eric Wayne, current United States Junior Heavyweight Champion, at NEW’s Internet Pay-Per-View, Boiling Point, for the title. The match is going to get my nomination for Match of the Year for WrestlingNewsCenter.com. Dustin Ring has met the qualifications for induction into the Unsigned Wall of Greatness, but before we get to a background of Dustin Ring lets look at wrestling events that have taken place since my last post.
As most of you know by now former WWE/WCW Superstar the Macho Man Randy Savage passed away after a medical event occurred causing him to lose control of his vehicle and strike a tree. The injuries he sustained from the medical event and crash are ultimately what killed the wrestling veteran. I broke the story of his death on WrestlingNewsCenter.com, and from what I was informed WNC was the first wrestling website to break the news. Savage was my favorite wrestler growing up when I began watching wrestling in 1994. I remember him taking on Ric Flair on a PPV with WCW in which the segment ended with Savage watching his father submit to Flair in the Figure Four Leg-Lock. Savage was the first wrestler to capture my attention and make me want to be a part of the business. Macho Man will be missed by me and his fans and fellow workers and I want to send my condolences to his family.
A year ago today I conducted an interview with WWE’s Downtown Bruno titled “Downtown Bruno: Uncensored & Uncut” to be released on DVD soon. I did this video with the intent to be uploaded to WrestlingNewsCenter.com, however to due some of the graphic language I decided to have it taken to DVD. This WNC Interview with WWE’s Downtown Bruno will be available on DVD within the year. Be checking soon here on my blog and on WrestlingNewsCenter.com for a release date and get your copy along with his book, “Wrestling with the Truth” available at Amazon.com. I am really excited about this DVD release and I hope you enjoy the DVD as much as I enjoyed interviewing Downtown Bruno.
Moving on to some news from New Experience Wrestling, NEW recently taped its first iPPV (internet pay-per-view) on May 27, 2011. I along with Downtown Bruno announced this exciting first for NEW. The iPPV, titled Boiling Point, will be available at newexperiencewrestling.co as of June 4th, 2011 at 6:00pm. (The ‘m’ on the link above was left out on purpose) The link to the iPPV will also get you previous TV tapings of NEW. If you want to get the right training and make you’re living in the wrestling business call Nightmare Ken Wayne’s School of Professional Wrestling at 901-831-4198 for tuition information. Now back to the newest inductee to the Unsigned Wall of Greatness…
Dustin Ring began watching Memphis Wrestling when he was just a kid. He states that he didn’t remember what he was watching but that he had watched. His dad would later purchase a VHS tape of WrestleMania featuring Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate Warrior. Ring would not get back into wrestling until the age of 11-12 just when the WWF(E) Attitude Era would begin. He was so obsessed with wrestling that he would watch every Monday and Thursday nights with his 30 year old neighbor. He claims that The Rock was his hero as a child. Not sure if he still is though. He would again lose interest in wrestling when the Attitude Era would begin to die off and WCW merged with the now WWE. During his freshman year he would begin to get the urge once again but this time he realized that he wanted to be a wrestler no matter what. He would search the web and area for Wrestling Schools only to find Bill Dundee’s wrestling school in Jackson, which was not even operational anymore. So he went to a few Memphis TV tapings and he was about 15 when he became upset about not finding a place to train. So Ring would later decide to walk up into the Memphis Wrestling locker room and began to chat with Brian Christopher, before being kicked out by the late Mr. Guy Coffee. He states “I remember being so pissed that nobody would even talk to me about it.” In his sophomore year he joined his high school wrestling team. Ring was one of the best on his wrestling team in school. He would go on to defeat his team captain for his Varsity spot. During his high school wrestling tenure he would go on State his first year and was ranked in the Top 30 of wrestlers in Tennessee. The same year Ring would meet Phoenix X, whom just so happened to be trying out for the team, but according to Ring chickened out. Ring stated that he and Phoenix were die hard wrestling fans and just like die hard’s he found himself wrestling on mattresses in the backyard. That was until he found a place to train. He would watch a tape of his friend Phoenix taking on two wrestlers, later found out to be Derrick King and Jason Reed. He would finally get his chance and get to the arena and meet Derrick King, Motley, he claims he was intimidated, Tasha Samone, Jason Reed, and Eric Hayes. He would train for nine months until he and Phoenix would have their first match at the Dyersburg Entertainment Center, it was September of his junior year. He would only wrestle in ring for a short period of time due to his high school wrestling being of more importance.
His junior year in high school was his prime year and he stated that he beat anyone who stood in his way. He would make it to State again that year but would not place in the rankings; this was the same year he made Team Captain. Into his senior year Dustin Ring would start hanging around the wrong crowd. Ring would start focusing on being the “too cool for school” guy, looking like Billy Idol than his wrestling future. Ring would fracture his back which would kill his shot at the State Championship his senior year, the same year he was predicted to win. Due to his injuries and other factors he would lose all his full ride scholarships. Ring would slide down a heavy slope of drugs and depression and would drop out March of his senior year. At this point wrestling was non-existent in his life. He would end up having what he states as “shit jobs”. Ring would then decide to try and get his life in order by joining the U.S. Air Force. The Air Force would be a turning point in Ring’s life and would get his head on straight and get him thinking clearly once again. Because of his decision to get clean and learn discipline once again he would set his sights back in the wrestling ring. He would set his sights on the WWE in 2007 trying any way he could to get his dream job. Ring credits Derrick King for taking him under his wing and helping develop his craft. During the years of 2007 to 2009 he would wrestle full time, a feat difficult in these days economy. However, Ring would run into a laundry list of disappointments during this time to which was contributed by pretty much just the same ole’ routine just on a different day scenario. He would end up attending an N.E.W. event and was recognized from the back and asked to wrestle. He would have the “match of the night” against former N.E.W. Wrestler Greg King. By this time the wrestling business would get to his head and he was more worried about having a good time and partying than utilizing his skills and being a wrestler. He would go on to vacate the US Jr. Heavyweight Title because he simply did not show up, which he says was one of the worst mistakes in his life.
Dustin Ring would make his return to N.E.W. once again for their Internet Pay-Per-View Boiling Point, available at newexperiencewrestling.co, to take on the current US Jr. Heavyweight Champion Eric Wayne. The match would, in my opinion, be a Match of the Year candidate for WrestlingNewsCenter.com. And for the time being it appears that Dustin is once again thinking clearly and setting his sights for gold once again. Dustin would like to thank Derrick King, Motley Cruz, Phoenix X, Tatt2, Eric Wayne, Ken Wayne, and Dustin Starr for being instrumental in helping him in his wrestling career.
Folks, when I first read some of the information that Dustin sent me, I was shocked to know that a professional of his magnitude had this many demons in his life. For those who are not aware I deal with some of the people that Ring used to be, the drug addicts, the alcoholics, and criminals. Of the ones that I deal with, Dustin Ring’s story is one of accomplishment, failure, rehabilitation, and salvation. Not many of the people that I deal with can hit rock bottom and be able to make it back to there feet with their head held high. I was inspired in the fact that this young man, athlete, and someone I am proud to call a friend, could get away from the drugs that were the demons of his life. Because of his pursuit to be a better wrestler and a better man, his dedication to recovery and courage to share some of his darkest hours so that others may find hope, I am proud to induct Dustin Ring to the Unsigned Wall of Greatness. Congratulation’s Dustin Ring and good luck in your pursuit to your dreams.
